Everyones advice , is mostly work on your short game, im assuming everyone struggles with that, but l can chip and putt great, thats how im making up strokes. only 1 driver goes anywere for me, its short, l have a 78 inch wing span Im not a chick, for those who are confused,im not to bad with , 250 yd drives is what im hitting.my irons,there a mess, l have a old dunlop 3,5,7,9 ironand a lynx 6cobra 4and a old ram 8,PW,....... this has to be the problem right?, ive improved everyday until now, l went to a par 3 course, l hated it, l cant stand the irons there all different weights and lengths, and the 6 iron has the longest shaft in the bag. how desperately do l need decent clubs of the same make or is it a waste of money?

that is a bit peculiar that ur six iron is the longest but yes having that big a jumble can be a problem l wouldnt say it ur only problem though. many pros & amateurs play with different types of irons for various reasons. for u it would probably be best to get a single set of irons. when people say short game they dont always mean putting & chippiong that goes to pitch shots & lob wedge to almost 7 iron. those r ur ''scoring clubs'' those r the ones that u should be able to hit & get the ball on the green & in a two putt scenario.(in a perfect world) so u need to work on those clubs as welll

Yes you really do need a full set of the same brand irons. Most courses have demo clubs that cost like $5 that you can use for 18 holes. l would recommend going to a course and using one of these demo sets. See how you like them and if you do, get a full set. l would go on ebay and look for some Wilson Di7's(cheap-good set of clubs). Or if you want some better clubs maybe some Callaway X-18's.

In all honesty Genosgirl (That is the Nic u r signed in under, Why would we be confused to find out that u r a guy?) You have answered ur own question..If a tool is incapable of doing the job u want.then replace it..will replacing ur irons drop 10 strokes off ur score?...None of us here have that ability to project what will or will not happen. The randomness of what u say ur Iron makeup is suggests u would benefit from different Irons. To be clear..If u do not like the Irons u have...get different Irons..it really is that simple

Edit: It is hardly the players that make golf an expensive past time... l appreciate what u r saying about affordability... l did not mean to imply that u should buy New..But ur question only applied to the parameters of what ur club make up currently is & if different clubs could help u improve. There r literally millions of people enjoying the game.. l have played for over 50 yrs & quite honestly have not run into anybody that even gave the least hint of being gay. l am sorry if u have taken offense at what l have tried to assist u with.

Simple answer, yes. You need to get a matched set of irons. You do not need expensive clubs or fancy ones either, but get a 'set'.
