ive been taking lessons for about two months now and have improved alot but im very inconsistant and l suck with low number irons. but on good shots l can drive the ball 200+ yards, and 100+ somtimes on 8 and 9 irons so could anyone give me some help. if im not ready how good should l be before attempting to go out on a golf course. by the way im 15 and have been to the driving ranges many times. thanks
by the way what is a good club cleaning set, l just got some new clubs for christmas. but please dont tell me just rags and water because l tried that and not all of the dirt came off.(its in the grooves)

There r people who have been golfing for years who r still inconsistent. l played behind 3 young men in the 20s - 30s last week & the other 4 women & l were keeping up with them on every hole. Two of the women r in the 70s', 2 in their 60 is & 1 in her 80's. They were not that good, but they were having a good time. That is what is most important.

By going out & playing a course is the only way to get better. You can practice all day every day & get good at hitting the ball, but u wo not learn what shot is needed in particular situations to get yourself out of trouble. Go out play on the course & just have a good time. You have lots of time to worry about getting better.

To clean my clubs, l put some warm water in a bucket & add some mild soap. l let the soak for a few minutes & use a soft brush to clean the groves. Dip the clubs in clear water & dry them with a towel.

you can play a recreational game of golf no matter how good or bad you are to help with your inconsistancey when out on the course before hitting a shot try hitting practice swings where the club skims the ground in the same place everytime then set up placing the ball where your club has skimed the ground.
this will give you a nice high trajectory and more backspin on the shot
p.s try using a old toothbrush for cleaning the grooves

if you want to play at a course go ahead just avoid playing with other people, trust me there is a lot of people worse than you. what l do to clean my grooves is get a tees and scrape the grooves with that, it will get all the dirt out

The driving range is nothing like the course in my opinion. l have been golfing my entire life and only visit the range for tweeking my swing or for instruction. To get better l think you should put yourself on the course between your lessons and have fun with the game.

To wash a club set some water and soap in a bucket, then soak the club for 15 minutes. Then while wet get a tough brush and clean in the grooves hard. Then dry and you are good to go.

Yes it is fine.go ahead and play. But you must play with others.

You will pick up a lot from other players. And you will learn quickly, course etiquette and the rules of golf.which are sometimes complicated.

First, l would look for the copy of '' The Rules of Golf '' put out by the USGA. The local pro shop should be able to give u a copy. Then l would memorize & practice what is in Section l, Etiquette. Very few players care how well u shoot but they do care about ur demeanor on the course. As for cleaning the grooves, use a golf tee which has the best point. Run this through the grooves after u have used the club. Wet one end or corner of ur golf towel & wipe the face of ur club. Then use the dry portion to finish. You just did not use the rags & water correctly.

keep practicing, if you do dicide to play find a time at the course when you are not holding others up. late in the day is usually good, bring a friend with you who has played enough before to help you with ediquette and all since you do not learn that at the driving range.

are you ready? do not assume everyone on a golf course can hit accurate shots all the time.hell, most of us will be happy if we even get lucky enough to hit an accurate shot. what i'm trying to say is that there are MANY weekend golfers on courses that can not hit a shot, the way they want, if their life depended on it.

Go for it! Relax & hit the ball. Pick a time where there r not that many people on the course. That way u wo not feel pressured to perform. The shot around the green r what is going to be difficult. l am not sure if u have been practicing those. Putting also.

Have fun! Take what u have done on the course back to the driving range & get better.

Last, if u play with some one good. Remember, they were not always that way! They had their first day on the course as well.

go for it. just relax and have a good time. golf is supposed to be fun after all. and if there is a group of people behind you that is better then you, just let them go ahead of you. that makes life better for you and makes them happy. try to go when you would think it would be least crowded, or call the course before you go and ask how busy it is.
