l have been playing really poorly for the last probably two months. l went from a plus 1 handicap to a 5. l am now trending to a 6. l went to my golf coach about 2 and a half weeks ago. He gave me a couple of things to work on. l have been working on these things every day. He is trying to get my back swing slower and my swing more on plane(it was under plane before). Since l have been to him l have not hit a good iron shot or drive. My miss is pretty thin. l am hitting my 7 iron about 140 yards now where l was hitting it about 165 before. He is popular golf coach who was in the top 100 in the country. He taught Craig perks and 2 other PGA tour winners. Everyone around town says he is a bad coach because he made a bunch of people underachievers. l am about to lay off for a week and see what happens. Where should l go after this. Should l find a new coach or should l stick with him. Where I am from there is not much in the line of good coaches l really need help.
Yea l am asking others. l WAS a plus one now i'm trending to a 6. l think that is a slight setback. l really appreciate others such as wbaker77 advice because i'm only 16 and he has been around the gave 4x longer than l have been alive

a golf instructor is as much about confidence in the coach as anything in the world. If u have confidence in ur current coach.then stick with him..If u don't...then find another instructor.

It does sound as if he is modifying ur swing & that is something that takes time for u to adjust to. Do not get down just yet.Maybe the break u talk about will be a good thing for you.

One thing to remember...When Tiger goes through swing changes it take him time to get his control & distances down too...And he is one of the greatest practicioners l have had the pleasure of watching.

You have gone from a plus 1 to a 5 trending to 6 ? l suggest that u chart every stroke for the next few rounds to determine which facet of the game is most trouble. Concentrate on that until u have achieved a reasonable improvement. Then tackle the next most faulty area, etc. If u did well with a fast swing revert back to it. If ur swing plane was not perfect but u had good results, go back to it. Work on ur tempo to develop a more consistent stroke for all clubs. Some instructors & students do not match. Are u doing any competitive golf ? This may help u settle into a better routine.

Sounds like you've lost confidence not only in ur coach but in yourself as well. One thing that usually happens when a player loses confidence is he no longer trusts his swing. This mistrust will often lead to an arms only swing in an effort to gain some control over the flight of the ball. This leads to a loss of distance & a very frustrated player. Try to clear ur mind & hit the range with a sense that you're going back to the past & try to trust ur old swing & turn through ur shots like u used to with ur own tempo & timing & a renewed sense of confidence. As for switching coaches that is going to be ur call but l am sure that there r quite a few young assistants around that have put in a lot of time learning how to teach & would love to work with a good player. It is possible that ur current coach has become complacent & is resting on his laurels & reputation. Good luck with ur return to a solid game.

Sounds like u doubt what ur coach is telling you. If u r not on the same page from the start, this will be doomed. If u work on a tempo that is faster or slower than ur natural tempo (how fast u walk, ur gate, tells u a lot about ur natural tempo) it could take some time to get the change down so it feels natural. If u visited ur coach so u play more consistent golf or to prepare for tournament golf, he might have chosen these areas for u to improve because these r areas he felt might unravel on u under pressure ( l am assuming here). Any time u make changes, the idea of the change is in ur mind & u now focus on the change instead of just letting the swing go & trusting in the new swing. You have to move beyond thinking of the changes. Trust what u r doing is right & move on. If u can not trust the changes or do not really want to make them, u can always revert back to ur old ways.
