What makes a golf course fun

Short, straight without much hazards, that is fun for me.

surrounding beauty and hole character. otherwise it is just a hole in some grass.

I've found that if u have a couple beers in u it makes it fun just being with friends or having a nice course is fun enough

The setting of the course, the birds, the hazards and the water bodies.

Not too hard and not too easy.. that would be fun. And here is my list:
- The 1st hole should have a wide long fairway for a long drive constest.
- The 17th hole should be the island green just like at TPC at Sawgrass.
- There should be a little bar on the 9th and 18th to serve cold beer.
- There should be a 10 yard marker on the side on the fairway (just like football), so we know how far to the green.

Now.. is there such course for real?

Aesthetics like a pleasant look and feel, Challenging but not impossible. l have played a lot of great courses and some not so great. fun comes from just playing for me.Even if its a converted pasture in West Texas.

The very fact that one is out of doors communing with nature,observing the wild life, the openness of the area, the habitat of the region, concentrating of hitting good golf shots and not thinking about work or business and heckling your buddies makes the time worth while. It is the ideal place to relax, to commune with people who have the same interests. It is not '' a good walk spoiled '' as indicated by those who have little imagination.

Good scenery and good mates to play with.
after all for 98% sport and golf to be more specific is a social thing more than anything else

l like a park like setting, lots of trees, wildlife, and no houses! Well cared for, fast greens. Lots of elevation change. A good range. The course needs to be well marked; l like poles sticking out of the ground at 100 (yards, red), 150 (black), 200 (blue). Last and probably most importantly pace of play must be less than 4.5 hours!!
l can’t enjoy a 5+ hour round!

beer, girls, fast carts, non crappy bunkers, good clubs, not fast but not slow greens, fairways without a million chunks taken out of them, good tee position, and best of all. YOUR SKILLS!!!!!!!!!!!

Variety. Some water, some trees, so interesting landscaping like a really high or low green, some big elevation changes. Military golf (north south north south) is not fun.

Oh yeah, hot drink cart girls never hurt.

Around 6,300 yds, undulating seaside turf, not too many deep bunkers, large greens and a number of beautifully designed par threes.
Plus scenic views to die for.

Easy, pace of play. It does not matter how wonderful a course is. If it takes 5-6 hours to play it, it sucks all the fun out of it.
