Hi l am just starting out in golf and l am looking to buy a set of golf clubs. l have seen some on ebay but am just wondering how many there should be in a full set? and what are they?

USGA allows 14 clubs to be carried in a round of golf, they are typically made up of a putter, a driver 1 or 2 woods, 1 or 2 hybrids,,2 -4 wedges, and the rest are irons.

14 make a full set. The types of clubs you have can vary according to personal preference. However, a driver, 3 or 4 wood and a 3 to 9 iron should be included.

14 clubs are allowed by the Royal and Ancient, who govern the game.

A complete set of golf clubs once comprised 3 or 4 woods, used for long drives; 10 irons (numbered upward as the angle of the club face provided increased loft), used for intermediate & short shots; & a putter, used for rolling the ball across the green. Although golfers may carry no more than 14 clubs in their bags, they can now select from 15 different woods, some now made of nonwood materials, from a range of hybrid clubs that combine the characteristics of traditional woods & irons, making them easier to hit than the standard irons they r designed to replace, & from specialized wedges for sand play & for pitching the ball at varying degrees of loft, which complement the standard irons.

The maximum number of clubs you can carry is 14 including the putter. However as a beginner you wo not need, and should not carry, all 14. You really only need 10 or so clubs to get going and then you can fill in the other 4 when you can see and understand the gaps in your game.

l would start with a Driver, 4 and 5 Hybrid, 6-9 Iron, Pitching Wedge, and the putter.

14 inclusive of a putter. It amazes me that pros now carry perhaps four wedges of differing lofts and it proves how far they can hit a golf ball.

14 make a full set. If you were playing in a match, tournament, or something along that line, you would be penalized for having too many clubs in the bag.

To help you in your search there are 14 clubs allowed for tournament play. A standard set would be 3 Woods ( driver 3 and 5 ) a standard set of irons would be a set of 8 ( 3-9 pw ) you would have a couple of sand wedges from 52* 56* 60* etc. and a putter to make 14. It has now become popular to replace long irons like the 3 and 4 with what is called hybrid clubs that are a cross between a fairway wood and a long iron. Good luck with your search.

PER USGA: A golf bag may have as many as 14 golf clubs where beginners are allowed to carry a half set – 3 woods, 8 irons and a putter.

14 0f course. l once played with Manyel Balasterous in a charity game and he gave me this advice. Anyone with a high handicap of 18 or more should play with only a half a set ie 7 or 8 clubs, this will make him a better player as he will learn how to manufature shots.

You need to be able to define ''Full Set r u refering to pro tour terms or what l would define as Full Set. Personally l play with a Driver, 5 Wood, 3-sw irons & Putter, so that is only 12 clubs. I've seen people use less who say, that is there Full Set & I've seen people carry more than 14 Clubs ( 3 wood, rescue, Gap Wedge, lob Wedge on top of what l have) in there sets & thats there Full Sets. Personally a Full Set is ur perception of what u prefer to use! I've played with a guy who only used woods & a PW, he had an old set of Ben Hogans 1,3,5,7,9 Woods & PW & Putter.

there can be at most 14 clubs
but if you're just beginning, you should start with 6 clubs, a driver, a wood, 2 irons(probably a 6 iron and an 8 iron), a pitching wedge and a putter. then when you get better you can add in more clubs

a full set is 12 clubs, despite what some people have stated here, with the max being 14 - but people choose to have 2 extra wedges.

full set: 1,3,5 woods, 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,pw, putter. people choose to carry a sand wedge & a lob wedge, or choose to take out a 3 iron for a gap wedge, or replace 3 & 4, & sometimes even 5 irons with hybrids. as u can see there r many variations, find which works best for you.

A lot of the sets on the internet that sell as full sets have 13 clubs as below but you can carry one extra club under normal rules, this is often a rescue club
