Ok l wanna know how to get those difficult 15- 25 yearders chip shots. l sually do not get the ball on the green on my first shot… but fairly close but right off the green like maybe l guess just a bit down off it about 15 – 20 yards on average… but then l have toCHIP the ball over to make it go on the green. What is the perfect way to execute this shot?. l feel like l have to follow through but l also feel that when l follow through l am going to hit with too much power and end up on the other side of the green in the same position. l wanna be able to chip it up and get a nice little floating action (loft)with my wedge or something and straight… What is the BEST way to get this accomplished?What is the Trick?

l know that the 'Pros' will tell you to use the center segment of your normal swing, but for chips that short,sometimes a' wrist shot` is handy.
(You get a lot of fine control.)

There r two types of shots that u need to be able to hit around the green. If there is no obstacle to go over (bunker, water, grass mound) u can hit a low shot that lands on the green ASAP & rolls to the hole. This can be done with many clubs, but nothing more lofted than a pitching wedge. Place the ball back in ur stance, hands in front of the ball & make a putting stroke (no wrist action). This is a ''chip'' shot or more accurately ''chip & run'' shot.

If u have an obstacle to go over, then u need to hit a ''lob'' shot which goes up in the air, lands softly & does not roll very far. Use a sand wedge, lob wedge, or 60 degree. Open ur stance, open the clubface, aim a little left & make a short U shaped swing. You must accelerate through the ball, but limit the distance with the length of ur backswing. Ball will pop up in the air, land soft & not roll as far.

Normally, you either use a 58 degree, 60 degree or 62 degree wedge for a chip shot for a distance between 15 - 25 yards. This chip shot is strictly using your hands swing with your body stand firm and no follow through. Ball position place at right leg or slightly further behind so that you can loft your ball high and drop on the green and near the hole.
