I'm 5'3'' male beginner, Is it OK to use women's golf clubs since I am shorter? (Looking into used sets only)??

According to measurements, I am 5'3 31'' from the wrist to the ground. It says l need a -1'' adjustment in males clubs, so, should l just pick up a women is used set on craigslist since they are generally 1'' shorter?

no, becuse you can swing faster/harder than a female.

it doesnt matter. when l was shorter l used a womens set because that is all that we had that would fit my size. You can get away with it they will hit the ball the same and they will probably be cheaper.

Just as important as the length is the flex of the shaft. Both Senior & Women is clubs tend to have more flexibility due to usually slower swing speeds. This gives more ''whip'' & helps to hit the ball farther. As a beginner, this might actually help you, but over time as ur swing improves & u generate more club head speed, this extra flex will actually cause u to be inconsistent. You should try out some different clubs on a swing monitor at a golf shop & see if u r generating the club head speed that would make the women is clubs a good fit. Usually speeds in the 70mph range r suited to the women is or senior flex. 80s is regular & 90s or higher is stiff (general rule).
Good Luck.

Yes. Use the womens clubs. When l was a begginner to golf, l used them too. The womens clubs have more flexibility on them so they are not as stiff as the mens. This is good. Once you start hitting well with the womens clubs and switch to the mens clubs, you will be able to hit the ball 15 yards farther on each shot. BUT, you have to use the womens club when you are a begginner.Have Fun!

TL..you have some good advice here relating to club length & u r already aware that being 5'' 3'' requires an adjustment to any set u may use. Before just making the assumption that a shorter set will fill the bill please consider having a standard length men is set adjusted for lie angle. Have the set flattened 2* 0r 3* & u will find that the clubs will now accommodate ur 31'' wrist to ground measurement. Do this & u will have all of the benefits of a longer shaft & a flex that will suit ur strength. The little extra distance wont hurt ur feelings either l will bet. If u r looking for a used set u should be able to find a set that has already been adjusted for lie angle. If u see a set that u like but r not adjusted they r easily done at any repair shop. Good luck.

Would not recommend it. Ladies clubs have lighter whippier shafts, & if u learn using them u will have a hard time switching over to men is clubs as u grow & get stronger. Your height & distance from wrist to ground do not mean u need shorter clubs. Any fitter that is just using a tape measure is doing u a disservice. As long as ur arms r in proportion to ur body standard length r fine. Only if ur arms r too long for ur body would u need clubs that r shorter than normal.

Visit your local golf pro and ask him to fit you out. You would be better with men is clubs. Remember Woosnam was very short and he could hit a ball a very long way

Pat B. has the right idea. If the clubs have steel shafts and do not seem too ''whippy then using women is clubs is fine.

Another approach would be to get some men is clubs cut down. l did this when l first started (age 13) and it helped a lot.

no, female clubs normally have a very non-stiff shaft. Unless yuo always take nice and smooth swings you should just get a childs set. Plus you will get made fun of for using girls set

no just use regualr clubs but watch what u buy

you have a choice wether you get long shafts or not

get short shafts.

also it really makes no difference because the key to it is to step back more away from the tee or ball and it is actually good for your swing so fire away with mens but maybe prefer shorter shafts over longer ones

Use this checklist. Due to the fact that there is more to consider. Here r 7 important fitting checks for beginners:

1. When lady golf clubs?
If u r between 5'2'' & 5'8'' tall preferably opt for standard length shafts. If u r smaller, take a petite.

2. How can u be sure?
If u r on the borderline, measure the distance from ur wrist to the floor.
Average height players will measure a distance between 31 & 34 inches.
Shorter: 30 & lower inches. Opt for a golf club set with shorter shafts. Petite golf clubs r about 1 inch shorter.

3. Shaft flexibility
Does the shaft have the right flexibility for you? Every older has to focus on this point, often graphite shafts r the right solution for women, but for men too.

4. Lie
If ur divots r considerably deep, ur club probably has a lie that is too upright. Lie is the angle in degrees of the head in relation to the shaft.
In case of deep divots: switch to a women club set with a flatter lie. This obviously also applies vice verse.
The smaller u are: consider a golf club petite with a lower lie. You can increase ur distance with a good lie. A good lie ensures that the part with which u can hit the ball well is as large as possible, as a result of which u will have less mishits.
If u r sure u have a proper lie, but u do not hit great, this may also be caused by ur swing!

5. Favorite club
Remember the Lent & the lie of ur favorite club in case u want to purchase another club number. The lie may vary for each golf brand.
An iron-5, for example, fluctuates around 60 degrees. For each higher golf club u can add one degree.

6. Loft
Is the loft of the golf club all right for you? (lady golf club petite or not)

7. Grip
What is the size of the grip? Do not take grips that r too thick, if u have slender hands. And ask yourself what kind of material it has been made of.

But above all: enjoy the game. All the best!
