You have to understand the physics behind the slice, ur putting side spin on the ball & that is because the club face is going across the ball. The irons r not as bad because they r shorter clubs which make u stand more upright to hit them. So try standing a little closer to the ball when u hit ur long clubs & check where ur club is when it makes contact. You may have other issues also like grip & alignment which r also affecting it. Get the book by Ben Hogan ''The 5 Fundamentals of the Modern Golf Swing'' it will walk u through those basic steps. Good luck & we will see u on the links.

Most amateurs slice & the tendency is longer clubs slice more than shorter ones. Could be weak grip or could be right shoulder (if right handed) gets out front early in ur swing. A pro can tell you. Fix- From the top of ur swing, it feels like ur back is to the target. From there, drop ur right elbow to ur side & then finish ur swing. Jack Nicklaus used to say he would feel his back was to his target when he started his swing back to the ball. Strengthening ur your grip could help also. Hope this helps & good luck. As a note.it will feel funny to start but trust it.

The first thing u need to be aware of is whether ur problem is indeed a slice & not a push slice.
There r only 2 things that cause a golf ball to slice.
The two things that cause a golf ball to slice occur at point of impact. They r the swing path of the club & the club face angle at impact.
The swing path is the determining factor in the Primary Direction of the flight path of the ball.
For a slice to occur u must have an outside to inside swing path. With the club coming from the outside to in the ball can only start off left of the target (right handed golfers). There is no way the ball flight can start off anywhere except left of target. l want u to think about that for a while & be sure in ur mind that this is so.
The club face at impact determines the Secondary Direction of the flight path of the ball.
For a slice to occur the club face angle must be open at the point of impact. This open angle of the club face combined with the outside to in swing path means that the club cuts across the front of the ball in an anti-clockwise direction. This is similar to a cut or drop shot in tennis.
The spin created on the ball will be increase to such an extent that the ball, starting off left of target, will eventually end up going right.
l mentioned in my opening paragraph that u need to be sure that it is a slice that is troubling u & not a ''push slice.'' Just to clarify: if ur ball starts off to the right & keeps goes further right this is a push slice.
A push slice is caused by an in to in swing path with an open club face.
There r only three possible swing paths - they are:
1. In to Out 2. Out to In 3. In to In.
There r also only three possible club face angles through impact :
1. Open 2. Square 3. Closed.
Each of the three possible swing paths in combination with each of the club face angles means there r only nine possible flight patterns - they are:
1. Push - In-to-out swing path with an open club face. 2. Draw - In-to-out swing path with a square club face. 3. Hook - In-to-out swing path with a closed club face. 4. Slice - Out-to-in swing path with an open club face. 5. Fade - Out-to-in swing path with a square club face. 6. Pull - Out-to-in swing path with a closed club face. 7. Push Slice - In-to-in swing path with an open club face. 8. Straight - In-to-in swing path with a square club face. 9. Pull Hook. - In-to-in swing path with a closed club face.
There could be any number of reasons why u have an outside to in swing path & an open club face at impact.
You need to know what is causing these two things if u want to learn how to stop slicing a golf ball.
There r several combinations of errors possible:
The first is the grip. This will determine the angle of the club face at impact. A weak grip will encourage an open club face.
Another common error is to lift the left shoulder too early through impact.
Try this right now. Get up from the computer, grab a club & address a ball. Take a slow motion swing & just before the contact area lift ur left shoulder & stop at this point. Notice the club face - it will be open.
The swing path is usually determined by poor alignment or incorrect aiming. l am amazed at how often l ask people what they r aiming at & discover that what they think they r aiming at, & what they r actually aiming at, r two different things. When this happens the brain will automatically try to compensate & will cause an incorrect swing path.
Another common error is trying to hit the ball too hard. The natural tendency when trying to hit the ball hard is to come from ''over the top'' in a casting motion. To get rid of a slice u will have to fight this tendency to ''hit the ball hard''. Timing & tempo have a far greater effect on distance control.
With the correct grip & correct alignment u should be in a position where u can decide what shape shot u want to play. Most players favour a draw or a fade. The hardest shot in golf is a straight shot.
The golf swing is really a lot simpler than people make out. There is far too much technical & confusing information bandied about for the average golfer. Keep it simple l say.
l trust the above explanation of what causes a golf ball to slice will help u determine what u need to do to learn how to stop slicing a golf ball. But please remember that no amount of coaching or lessons will help u if u r not prepared to put in a little bit of practice.
To put it as simple as possible, during ur whole swing untill ur finish, ur hands should be touching ur waste & ur waste has to turn like crazy until ur chest is aiming way left of ur target before u hit the ball. Hey sorry for my long answer man but u need to know how to stop slicing.Thank you!
