wile playing a very well played round of golf l just grabbed an old XL200 out of my bag. it had a few nice scuffs on it but it was not a windy day so l kept playing it..like a major league pitcher enjoying the way he can work a ball that has hit the dirt and scuffed up a bit l found that l could work this ball well and though l was hitting the ball well it was like l could make itdo anything l wanted. my QUESTION IS , do pro,s play witha scuffed ball on occasion and does it give them an advantage to a shiny new one when it relates to spin and holding on the green or working the ball?
Example,l can it a slight draw or fade but a came up on a par for where a fade was ok but without changing my fade swing l put the scuffed part of the ball facing my club face at impact , l took a bigger swing knowing l could pull off a nice fade and got a bit more spin on the ball and it made the corner much shorter as l got more distance with the big swing but my ball also made a great turn at the end and left me about a 90 yard aproach where my normal fade would have left me the usual 140.if l tried to put that much spin on the ball with my club l would have been more likely to mishit my shot or slice into an unplayable lie.im thinking it was the scuff ?
No l wasnt cheeting ! l listed one example off of the tee only..but im sure a scuff grabs more air and turns the ball in flight a bit more in adition to grab on the club face if it makes contact with the grooves .. but does it also grab the greenharder?like a scuff on a bowling ball grabs the lanes?

most pros prefer soft covered balls,such as the titleist pro v 1, which react to the grooves in their clubs their skill level means they can achieve spin without the need of scuffs on the ball and normally change a ball for a new one when it becomes scuffed

Well, you are actually cheating. How can you move your ball to play the scuff off of the clubface under the rules of golf? The ball MUST be played as it lies.

Obviously this wouldnt apply to a tee shot, but l think you know what Im getting at.

Hate to ruin your well played round of golf by telling you that the score you shot technically never happned.

In short answer form a new ball please! To many what if's!!!

Per ur example there r questions needed to be asked what was the wind condition? You gained 50 yards it is one thing to cut the corner its another to set up for a power fade & hit a bananna. (not saying u did, but as u describe a huge turn, that raises an eyebrow) What was the distance to the corner from ur tee box?

Ok so maybe l am being to analytical, the scuff ball can help u & hurt u all at the same time. It could grab the green or it could skip u see to many unknowns. Play a fresh ball.
