62 would be very, very good.
The PGA Tour record on a Par 72 course (which is the average) is 59.
Bad scores are relative. For Pros, anything over 74 or 75 is pretty bad. For duffers like me, anything over 100 is pretty bad.

62 is very good by anyones standards. ''Good'' is a relative term. Most people would be happy with 85. Some people are pissed with 75. But par on most courses is near 72 and thus a ''good'' score.

The lower the better with a score of 72 being par. Most golfers score in the 90-100 range. Players that score 80-90 are considered to be pretty good and those under 80 are considered good. Top pros consider scores 65-70 as being good so the 62 you ask about is great. That is if it is an 18 hole score. There are no bad scores in golf because one would never pass judgement on another players ability although my brother is a hacker.

The lower the number is indeed the better. 62 for 18 holes is a great score. For 9, not so much.

okay well 62 would almost be impossible unless you are pro or just playing 9 holes and suck. the lower the better. depending on the difficulty of the course is what number you shoot. so on a easy course pros can shoot 60 is but on a hard course they would shoot around 70. so if you shot a 62 you probably only played 9 holes. if you played 18 holes then GO PRO.

A 62 would be considered a very good round, you look at the Par number for the course and the more strokes below par the better.

The number 62 is meaningless unless you have a relational reference.

For example, if it were shot by Tiger Woods on a 5,885 yard municipal course, it would be horrible.

But if it were shot by me at Riviera Country Club, from the back tees, it would be one of the remarkable rounds of the year.

for the last one hundred past years the average handicap of a golfer has remained at 18. this means a player on a course rated at 123 slope. course rating of 70. 88 would be a very good round. the world has never had so many great golfers at any time. with the high talent level, tour pros all tours combined . there r probably 40 rounds 62 or lower. the 4 major championships have never had a player shoot a 62. very very few of the worlds greatest amatures rarely shoot a 62 or lower. it is a fantastic score for a pro. for a amature . sell ur clubs. because u will be in shock for ten years. just keep going . u just never know what the future holds .

YOU did just fine! a 62 is a good score for any golfer playing there first 9 holes.. keep ur card .. go out in the back yard or the park or schoolyard across the street an hit some golf balls with ur wedge or 9 iron .. work on hitting a target. from several distances .. stop at the range & hit a bucket of balls with ur set.. then call ur friend & play another 9 holes.. ur scores will drop & u will be on ur way.. but l would have to remember back some time to remember my first round score on 9 holes .. l think l was a freshman in high school with my dads old set of clubs.. l think l shot in the 60s also so no stress for now .. just go play & enjoy yourself.. always remember that 60% of ur score is short game within 100 yards of the green & putting.. practice the short stuff. IF ur boyfreind shot a 62 & u were wondering why they were so happy & didnt come home until after a 3 day drinking binge only to call once shouting l SHOT A 62! ,, for 18 holes it is a round of a lifetime for anyone. it would be like u Kicking Michael JORDAN'S ARS in a game of one on one basket ball in front of ur Friends.. twice in a row! its impressive
