l normally play on par 3 courses as me and my mate are....very bad golfers. We can play the occasional good shot but most of our shots end up rolling along the ground a hundred metres or it gets up in the air, but in the trees.
We are playing 18 holes on a normal course - as we do every now and again. We are capable of playing 18 and on a normal course (we are inviting another friend). But becasue you need a to play different shots on the normal courses - l was wondering how to play these shot - where the ball should be in your stance, etc.
so....there are a few that l would like to know. l have herd of a few theories but l would like to know for sure.
Where in your stance should the ball be when playing a wood (from the fairway)
Where should the ball be when playing long irons (in stance obviously)
Where should short Irons be
In relation to the club, how far should the ball be teed when playing an iron tee shot (l have herd many theories for this).
And whats the best way to play bunker shots (stance etc) - greenside and fairway.
Sorry for the many questions....but like l said, l have herd a lot so l would like to know for sure how to play some of these shots properly.

Where in ur stance should the ball be when playing a wood (from the fairway): slightly forward in ur stance
Where should the ball be when playing long irons (in stance obviously): same as wood slightly forward.
Where should short Irons be: slightly back in ur stance until u reach the wedges then almost at back foot
In relation to the club, how far should the ball be teed when playing an iron tee shot ( l have herd many theories for this).3 iron to 6, about half way up the clubface, 7 iron to wedges, teed right into the ground until u cant see the tee (i personally dont use a tee for 7 - wedges)
And whats the best way to play bunker shots (stance etc) - greenside & fairway.: for fairway bunker, u must take a normal stance, & hit the bottom back of the ball first before ur club touches the sand (hard to explain, google would do better for this) & for a greenside bunker, try opening up ur stance by aiming well to the left, & open ur clubface by aiming the club slightly to the right. swing slightly left of the pin & take a full swing hitting about 5 cms behind the ball.
Hope this helped.

. woods and long irons l play toward the front foot . as the irons get shorter l move them back toward the rear foot. this varies with each person some, that is why it is important to take some practice swings to see where your club is making contact with the ground. bunker shoots are easy when you keep in mind your not trying to hit the ball , but the sand under the ball come in apx. 3 '' behind the ball and swing like mad while keeping your head down and eyes closed ha ha

Where in ur stance should the ball be when playing a wood (from the fairway):on ur left heel( l hope u r right handed) Where should the ball be when playing long irons (in stance obviously):a little bit back in ur stance than ur fairway wood. In relation to the club, how far should the ball be teed when playing an iron tee shot ( l have herd many theories for this).Everybody is different nobody can give u a exact answer. Where should short Irons be:right in the middle. And whats the best way to play bunker shots (stance etc) - greenside & fairway.:greenside-open ur stance, open the club face & swing hard. Fairway-normal stance & just try to hit the least amount of sand as possible.

This is the standard, normal, or classic methods.
Ball position in stance for wood from the fairway -- inside ur left heel.
Long irons -- inside ur left heel, maybe a notch close to center if u prefer.
Short irons -- middle of the stance, or maybe closer to the back if u prefer.
For iron tee shots -- same position
Hitting bunker shots is an art. but most importantly, for green side bunker shots, play a little bit forward in ur stance (closer to ur left heel), close to the heals. This is because u want to hit the sand first, & no ball.
For fairway bunker shots, try to hit it in the middle of the stance or back (closer to right heel). This is because u want to hit the BALL first, & u do NOT want to hit sand first.

What u feel comfortable with, & r successful with, is the right answer. You need to find out what works for you. Typically, the longer the club the farther forward in ur stance. However l have seen very good players play every iron from the middle of the stance. Good players can play different shot form different ball positions. For example; a high flop SW is played form a forward position, with an open stance. A low running shot is played form the back of center with a trap, hook type shot. Tee height with irons is also a matter of preference. l never tee up irons; l will use a tee to give myself the perfect lie almost to the ground. l have seen pros tee irons ½ inch off the ground. Bunkers r a little different. Around the green u usually want to blast a shot out. It’s like taking a huge divot in the sand. Long iron sand shots r very hard. l would suggest, if the ball is sitting up nicely, try to pick it clean. If the ball is berried, punt, take a SW & hit it back to the fairway.
Good Luck!

Easy to remember guide: Mid irons.middle of stance Long irons.1ball forward of middle Short irons.middle or 1 ball back of center Woods.2-3balls forward of center Driver.off the front heel Short sand shots.ball forward of center & hit behind ball Long sand.ball forward of center & pick it from the sand The tee is designed to allow u to get the sweet spot of the club on the ball. Low irons have a low sweet spot so tee up just above the grass line. Long irons have a higher sweet spot so tee up slightly higher & newer drivers have a sweet spot higher up than center of the club face so tee it up so ur ball center is just under or even with the top of ur driver. But do not just take my word for it..try it. Good luck!

1. lined up with ur left ear (if ur right-handed) 2. left ear for longest irons, 1 ball ahead for the shortest long iron 3. assuming that you call the mid-irons the short ones, center of ur stance for the longest to lined up with the inside of the right foot for shortest one For #4-5, there is a really good book called Golf magazine The Best Instruction Book Ever! that gives you tips and instruction on tees and bunker shots. :)
