l am looking to invest in a new putter and l can basically choose what length and what type of grip l want. l do not wanna end up with the putter being too short or too long. l just want it to be the same length as all my previous putters. l just want one that is the standard length.

putters dont have a standard lenght, which is why they have them really long chinny ones..

A putter should be the same length as your arm, from the center of your back to your wrist. Have someone measure you.

http://learnaboutgolf.com/equipment/putter.html The putter is pre-built at Men is Standard Length (34 inches) and with a Men is Standard putter grip.

the standard is 34 l would recommend that if you are buying a new putter to go to a qualified pro shop and buy it, most places will fit you for a putter, the fitting will include the proper length for you stance, and they can adjust the loft and lie of the putter as well, your stance contributes to alot of things and you need to get the putter flat and square at impact to improve your stroke, get fitted and hopefully your putting will improve

34 inches is standard, but if you go to a golf shop, you will see all lengths. Most stores have a neat little measuring device that looks like a putter. You get all lined up and it moves up and down and you can see what length works for you. No commitment. Edwin Watts and PGA Superstore have them. You can also just measure your current putter, if that is what you like. Good luck.

Even the pro.s can,t answer this one, conventional, belly, broomhandle;whatever you are comfortable with, just don,t rush into buying the first one you try.Guarantee you will change style sometime.

Wow, l am surprised at some of the . The standard putter length from all of the major manufacturers (Odyssey, Ping, TaylorMade, Scotty Cameron) is 35''. It is universally agreed that 34'' is a better fit for most golfers, as that allows the arms to hang a little more loosely from the shoulders. Cameron in particular u will have a tough time finding 34'' in ur local retailer. If u look on E-Bay u will see that 34'' Scotty putters command a higher price than 35''. That tells u which one is harder to find. As further proof, 34'' putters of all models sell faster at retail. That said, if u bought off the rack last time, chances r u bought a 35'' putter. If u r just trying to duplicate, that is the length u want.

Standard is usually 34 or 35 inches. Depending on how you set up to putt you may want one a little longer or shorter. Do not go too short though, as while it may feel like you have good control over the head, bending over too much will put strain on your back, and you wo not practice as much as needed because it becomes uncomfortable.

highly recommend going to a golf store to get sized and then look for a putter that is size weight proportioned a great example is scotty cameron putters they make the weight and the length mesh perfectly but get sized it will help you soooo much good luck

contrary to all of the prior experts u have heard from so far...There is no such thing as a standard length for a putter. All reputable Putter makers offer Putters in various lengths. The Usual range that u will find l any golf store is between 33 & 35 inches as these will fit most golfers..The most purchased length is 34 inches. There r the Broomstick putters which have no actual average as each one is different. The important thing is to get one that fits ur putting style & has the weight & feel that makes u comfortable..kind of like a good pair of slippers.

well they come in 33'' 34'' 35'' & some 36'' lengths
One major factor is the lie of the putter as-well can make a 34'' feel like a 36'' or vice versa, 35'' is usually for ppl 6' & over 36'' for 6'3'' & up.
an awesome grip is the ping blackout, thats the one tiger uses it feels so good, the one down side is that u will have to replace it quite often as it looses that awesome feel.
My suggestion is get the shaft really long, get the pro or who ever to bend it to a lie try it without the grip on yet & keep bending till it is perfectly flat when u setup naturally, then get the length cut to where ur hands were & put on the grip.

35'' is probably the commonest length, with 34'' close behind. You can find 33'' & 36'' in some makes, if u look hard enough.
However, it is a little-discussed fact that the average tour pro is over 6 feet tall & - having been tested to ensure the best possible performance - uses a 33''-33.5'' putter (that is average, so many r shorter). Most amateurs under 6' would be better off with a putter of no more than 33 & maybe less - though l know that was not what u were asking.

35 is the standard, but it depends on your height, you should get yourself fitted for your putter.

A stanard putter from the manufacturer is 34-35 inches but this is just the start of the story. In our proshop we cut most putters down to around 32 or 33 inches (yes it makes a difference!!!) after they have been fitted, and this shows that the average putter from the factory is to long for most people, l would get yourself fitted and find out what length lie and loft you need as this can make the difference between holing a putt and lipping out.

34-36 inches.just try out a bunch of putters. the only way to know which one is rights is when you can see the putterhead is sitting flat on the ground. thats all you can do without being professionally fitted
