Has anyone tried to ''ice'' fish for used golf balls in breakaways and hazards, by going to frozen ponds, in the wee of winter and chipping a hole in the ice, then taking a device and trying to scoop the bottom?

It would be a poor mans way of scuba diving right?
My friend wants to do this.Can anyone give me any advice on doing this?Should you use a fishnet?
This is in canada, so alot of the ponds would be frozen. Is there a technique that goes the best w/ this?Or has no one tried it?or have people wasted their breath trying this?

If the ponds are frozen how are the balls getting in the hazard?
l say get liquored up and go for it, it is a great ice breaker.
