I've heard that blade irons are usually only good for expirienced players, but my cavity back irons just bounce off the deck l am kinda sure l need something to cut into the fairway more but l am not sure what to buy. Any suggestions?
i should not have put it in the words 'beginner' l have played for 1 1/2 years l meant like non expirienced

If you are a beginner take a couple of lessons on how to hit golf shots. Once you are familiar with the basics , you should be able to get better results with the cavity - back irons. You can use any club you wish and it is ok to use whatever club your heart desires. No set rules as to what a beginner should use.

Perimeter weighted clubs(cavities) r easier to hit because of larger sweet spots & forgiveness. They can have larger soles making them tougher on thin lies. Beginners can use blades but ur misses will be more pronounced. Blades have a small margin of error so they will either make u become a better ball striker or u will go back to cavities.
Your best bet, as a beginner, would be to take lessons to develop a good swing & be able to handle the tighter lies with ur current sticks. Good luck.

Do not Buy Blade Irons Before You Read This
Using the Ask Terry button, in the right hand sidebar, Warren asks:

I've been experimenting with blades in my mixed bag, which currently has cavity back long irons & blades from 7 through the wedges.

l am tempted to move to all blades for a variety of reasons - mainly the crisp, effortless shot when l do hit it right.

Looking at the 'used' market, l am wondering about blade design & its evolution. It seems that older Arnold Palmer blades have mass concentrated near the center of the clubhead, while older Titleists have more toe weighting.

Current blades on the market seem to vary linearly from heel to toe. Can u talk to these variations ?

Is the industry moving towards the 'perfect blade' or is the selection ultimately just a union of club & swing - a 'whatever works best for you' sort of thing.

Thanks for the insight, if u have the time to respond.

The reason ur clubs r ''bouncing off the deck'' is not because of the type of irons u r using. Rather ur swing is bottoming out behind the ball. A proper strike is one that hits the ball first on a descending motion. This produces a divot in front of the golf ball. The point of the swing is, in fact, in front of the ball. Some players think the ball is ''helped'' into the air by perfectly getting under the ball. This is incorrect. The ball climbs into the air because of back spin produced by the downward strike.

My advice is to have the handle forward (slightly) at impact & make a divot in front of the ball.

Generally, cavity back clubs r easier to get airborne due to their lower center of gravity or ''CG''. Blade irons have a higher CG & r more desirable for better players who do not need this extra technology to produce spin.

But, no matter what, if u r bottoming out behind the ball it does not matter if u have a cavity back or a blade iron.

Blades r not a good idea if u do not have at least several years of experience under ur belt. l have been playing for over 13 years & finally got blades a few months ago. l am a +2 handicap & l thought l could handle them, but my coach is making me switch back to a forged cavity-back for the time being.

If u want something with a cavity that has more of a blade feel, u could try TaylorMade. l forget now which model, but l remember that they had a set that was just as good as blades, but with a lot more forgiveness. Titleist ap2s r also a good investment. In fact, l would say that they r one of the best cavity-back sets on the market. A lot of my friends play them & they absolutely love them. They combine playability with forgiveness, making them one of the most perfect sets available today.

Blade irons offer far less forgiveness than any cavity back iron does. More advanced players choose to use blade irons because they like the look better, and because they are easier to ''work'' the ball with. l would suggest sticking it out with the cavity backs. l am a 17- year old scratch golfer, and l even feel that hitting a blade-style iron is tough.

Stick with cavity backs !

yea you can use blade irons but understand that cavity backs are more forgiving, If you hit the ball in the center of the club head than go for it but if your off every once in a while your shots arent going to go where you want.
